Global warming affects environment and our lives

For the past few years, the weather has been crazy. Late last year, on one particular day, California was colder than New York. Global warming will cause sea levels in Indonesia to rise, and 2,000 islands will be completely submerged underwater.

The polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. How long will it take before the polar ice caps disappear entirely? If this happens, polar bears along with many other species will have nowhere to live. If everyone would use recycled paper and then recycle all paper and plastics, we can greatly reduce the number of trees that are cut, the amount of waste that just sits in our landfills and save many thousand gallons of water from waste.

Reading policy & efficacy

I was always perplexed by English in the past; I always feel that it is a very difficult thing to study English. Taking much time to study English, but always don’t have very good effects, make passivism on the attitude of reading.

After I came to Lung-hwa University studying English, I found it is easy to study English. Mr. Liu teaches us to use the policy of teamwork and cooperative reading strategy instruction, I feel my English is getting better than before and I became don’t afraid to speak English in the class. When I read the article I also became easier to understand, after lessons my classmates and I usually study English together, not study alone. The English become my friend.

Students don't like to reading books in Taiwan, but since we use the policy of teamwork and cooperative reading strategy instruction, I feel study English is easy and interesting. I often use activating prior knowledge, my classmate and I use it to discussions for individuals with different backgrounds to understand the article, the resulting knowledge more widely. I recommend using reading strategies to learn English; it will help us study easier and effective.

How to arrange the trip-Topic

We prepare the several projects to arrange our schedule of trip.

First, we are going to Japan in September for 5 days on vacation. Why did we choose that month? Because, September is the low season in Japan, and the weather is cool for us.

Then, Japan is a very suitable for tourism, such as hot springs, flower viewing, eating, and shopping. Our tourist destination is for shopping, eating delicious food, go to Disneyland.

According to our choice of topics, we start to searcher the information about Japan. We ask our family, friends and co-works, besides we go online to search the information, such as travel agency website, Backpackers, Japan traveling group. We can refer to other people's experiences and suggestions to know which area can match our topic.

By the results of our collection is Tokyo, the most suitable to our topic.

Sky Lantern

Sky lantern which was originated in the Three Kingdoms Period is said that Zhuge Liang (Kongming) was the inventor; hence the term Kongming Lantern. Kongming Lantern is also the prototype of the modern-day hot-air balloon.

According to local elders’ says, long time ago when bandits often plagued their area, villagers were forced to seek refuge  in the mountains. After the bandits had left, village guardsmen would release nighttime sky lantern to send an “it is safe to return home” message to refugees. Therefore, the villagers like to call sky lantern “prayer lantern” or “peace lantern.”

Over the years, the custom of releasing sky lanterns on the first month of Lunar New Year had become a specialty of Taipei. The quiet mountain village has been carrying on this folklore tradition for close to 200 years now. This is indeed the most distinguished cultural festival that northern Taiwan can offer.
